Summary

In spite of their fascinating properties, fused porphyrin tapes have been only recently investigated for functional applications thanks to the development of a gas phase approach towards their simultaneous synthesis and deposition. We propose to expand this new synthesis strategy to other coupling reactions and other porphyrinoids for the engineering of new conjugated polymer thin films for sensing applications. We will integrate these polyporphyrinoid thin films in heterojunction devices by chemical vapor deposition, for the detection of NH3 and O3, in the ppm and ppb range, respectively. The introduction of electron-withdrawing or donating moieties and the careful selection of the metal centers will allow to engineer the barrier energy at the interface in sensors and their affinity for gases, as well as their hydrophobicity. In addition, the electropolymerization of the same monomers will provide access to original heterojunctions combining two types of polyporphyrinoids.
